39 Defaults on NY1

The play “39 Defaults” by Spanish playwright Mar Gomez Glez, which highlights the Latino international festival, is the true story of a Spanish political activist on the run from the law who gets invited to stay at an American woman’s New York apartment.

“It really creates a unique opportunity, I feel for an audience to experience a different kind of just experience, a different kind of way of seeing theater,” said director Julian Mesri.

“We founded TeatroStageFest to give voice to the diverse and rich Latino community of New York,” said Susana Tubert, the festival’s executive director.

A Spanish playwright conquests Broadway with Theater at English

Premiere on Broadway is a dream for many, for a Spanish author is little more than a chimera. However, if there is a scenario in which illusions can happen is the city of New York. An example is the Spanish writer Mar Gómez Glez, who in June released his work 39 Defaults , written in English, during the theater festival organized  Teatro Stage Fest.  Teather La MaMa also scheduled for 2013.

Playwright, small but intense gaze and determined, was born in Madrid 34 years ago and moved to the Big Apple in 2007. The writer has just won the Calderon de la Barca Award by  Numbers , that the artist director Mike Bradwell, defines his style as a cross between Monty Python and Chekhov. “I could not have received a higher compliment,” laughed Gomez, who in 2007 was also awarded the Beckett for his first play, Fuga Mundi . In 2010 he published his first novel, Reversing (Parentheses, 2010) and is now about to finish a book of stories.
